Prime Minister’s office to get new Scottish Leather

Prime Minister’s office to get new Scottish Leather

Leffler Leather of West Melbourne has supplied handmade “bespoke” leather for the refurbishment of the Prime Minister’s office following two years of trials and approvals.

The Burnt Orange and Grey leathers made by Muirhead Fine Scottish Leather in Glasgow have been supplied and are now waiting for a suitable installation date.

The current furniture in the Prime Minister’s office was returned to its rightful place when Kevin Rudd took office in 2007. John Howards taste for green leather chesterfield sofas was replaced by the original furniture. The ink was barely dry on Mr Howard's resignation as Prime Minister before workmen stomped in and lugged the chesterfields away. The current furniture had first graced the office when Bob Hawke and Paul Keating served as Prime Ministers but had it had been in storage for the preceding nine years in the Parliament House basement whilst Howard was in office. Designed by the architects who designed all of Parliament House, the modernistic furniture, in shades of burnt orange to blend with the wood from a single Huon pine that lines the office walls and grey leather to contrast on the dining chairs.
